Staff and Staff Profiles

SERVICE STAFF

An organised multi-disciplinary team approach to the care of the injured patient is essential to the successful development of an injury management service within a trauma centre. This multi-disciplinary team is developed, led and evaluated by the Trauma Service, comprised of the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Nurse Coordinator, Case Managers, Trauma Data Manager, Area Trauma Nurse Coordinator and Administrative support.

Medical Director

The Trauma Director oversees the day-to-day care of the injured patient within the hospital. Their responsibilities include not only the clinical management of injured patients, but also the organization of inter-specialty care, staff education, and integration of hospital services with prehospital (i.e. Ambulance) and post discharge (i.e. rehabilitation) services.

Trauma Nurse Coordinator

The Trauma Nurse Coordinator or Trauma Clinical Nurse Consultant coordinates the day-to-day management of the hospital trauma service and monitors the daily progress of the patient with particular attention to preventing complications of injury care. They act as the cost centre manager and supervise other nursing staff within the trauma service. As the Trauma Nurse Coordinator is an expert clinician in injury care they also act as a resource for other staff within the health care system.

Area Trauma Coordinator

The Area Trauma Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating the Injury Management Program in the Urban Trauma Centres linked to the Major Trauma Service.

Case Managers

St George Hospital has enhanced the trauma service even further by introducing trauma case managers. They provide direct patient care and coordination. They also assist with data collection and with the ongoing education of hospital personnel in trauma-related areas.

Data Manager

The Trauma Service Data Manager collects and organizes detailed patient data using a computerized database program. This allows various members of the Service to regularly and methodically analyse multiple aspects of patient care and clinical outcomes, which is an essential requirement for maintaining the highest possible standard of care.
