Working at Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital

Employment |Working at Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital | Great reasons to work with us

If you have ever wanted to work in a hospital-based environment, whilst simultaneously being within arms reach of the Sydney city centre with its extensive network of shops, theatres, restaurants, pubs, museums, gardens and harbour, then Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital is the place for you.

Join the team at Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital and benefit from working in a dynamic, progressive and friendly health care facility which provides acute services to the inner city suburbs and central business district. The hospital's tertiary referral hand unit and Eye Hospital service means that staff also receive patients from around the state.

The diverse specialties offered at our hospital enable staff to gain valuable hands on skills in the fields of eye, hand, general, adolescent, sexual, HIV, alcohol and drug related health, and to form part of a motivated and supportive multi-disciplinary team.

The Langton Centre, Kirketon Road Centre and ADAHPT, located in trendy Surry Hills, and cosmopolitan Kings Cross and Darlinghurst respectively, are within a stone's throw of the city centre and other sought after areas such as Paddington and fashionable Oxford Street.

The hospital has car parking and meals, an active social club and is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers. The cosmopolitan café now located on site means that you can have a superb meal in the hospital's historic courtyard without leaving the premises.

In addition, the hospital has a fascinating history, and enjoys the distinction of being Australia’s oldest hospital. The hospital traces its beginnings to the arrival of the first fleet in 1788, when a tent hospital was erected near the Rocks.

Now located in historic Macquarie Street between Parliament House, the Mint and the Domain, the original Sydney Hospital was built in 1816. A new hospital was constructed at the site in 1894 and it is this series of magnificent buildings that dominate the site today.

A new Clinical Services Building was completed in 1995, and this combination of the new and old means that employees have all the benefits of working in a new and modern environment together with the distinction of working amongst an outstanding collection of heritage listed buildings and facilities.
