Location

Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital is located on the eastern edge of the Sydney CBD, within a stone's throw from the world famous Sydney Harbour, Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Equally close are cafés, bars and shopping centres, with cinemas, theatres, museums and recreational facilities also within easy walking distance. Lunchtime activities for our staff are endless.
The Hospital also enjoys boundaries with the Botanical Gardens and the Domain where many free community activities and events are held.
Our team
The staff at Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital are renowned for their outstanding ability to provide excellent health care to our many patients. The hospital employs around 500 staff, with many having the opportunity to work closely with staff members from outside of their specialty area. There is a strong spirit of cooperation, teamwork and camaraderie amongst all hospital employees, with new staff warmly welcomed.
Our services
The specialty ophthalmology, hand, sexual health and drug and alcohol are all first class institutions providing the very best in health care excellence to our patients. These and other specialties are supported by research, placing staff members in an optimum position to be a part of innovative new procedures and treatments.
Our heritage
The hospital dates from the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, and has occupied its present location on the eastern edge of the CBD since 1811. It's collection of heritage-listed sandstone buildings are amongst the city's finest. The hospital also houses its own historical collection of nursing and medical memorabilia.
Learning opportunities
The hospital caters for a range of educational opportunities. The hospital offers Australia's largest ophthalmology registrar program, and the clinical nursing division offers postgraduate nursing courses in Alcohol and other drugs, HIV infection and disease, infection control, ophthalmology and sexual health and venereology. There are many short courses available, and a comprehensive orientation program is offered to all new employees.

The hospital is easily accessed by public transport including bus, train and ferry.
