Does the use of pedometers increase physical activity in Illawarra residents who are referred to outpatient cardiac rehabilitation? The Illawarra Health Promotion Unit; NSW Heart Foundation; Public Health; Epidemiology Department, University of NSW. Furber S. A qualitative study on the perceptions of cardiac rehabilitation participants on the usefulness of pedometers for promoting physical activity. Oxygen gas analysis will be used to accurately measure a person’s level of fitness at each point in the study.
Albury Telehealth Chronic Pain Management Program. Psychology Department, Port Kembla Hospital. Bliokas V. This project is an expansion of the existing outreach pain management programs to regional centres that lack this service. It consists of three chronic pain management programs, which are transmitted via telehealth to Albury Base Hospital. The project also involves the development and implementation of an education program to Albury Base Hospital staff.

Effectiveness of a graded exposure pain management program. Psychology Department, Port Kembla Hospital. Bliokas V. The project is a prospective study investigating the effectiveness of a graded exposure pain management program, targeting fear avoidance behaviour in a chronic pain population, compared to standard cognitive behavioural programs and wait list controls.
Review of depression following limb amputation. Northern Illawarra Rehabilitation, Aged and Extended Care (RAEC). Quinlan . This pilot study involves serial monitoring of mental state, pain scores and depression scores in patients following limb amputation.
Is there a relationship between nutritional status and the functional independence measure in rehabilitation inpatients? Nutrition Department. Lambert K.

The study aims to assess whether a relationship exists between nutritional status and functional independence, to determine the prevalence of malnutrition amongst the patients admitted to rehabilitation in the Northern Illawarra and to investigate if a relationship also exists between the nutritional status score and length of stay, diagnosis and the costs of hospitalisation.
