About Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH)

Welcome

Join us at the Prince of Wales Hospital and experience an exciting lifestyle while furthering your career at one of Sydney’s premier tertiary hospital services.

Location

The Prince of Wales Hospital is located in Randwick in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. The hospital is 15 minutes from the heart of the city, 5 minutes to glorious Coogee Beach, close to the famous Bondi and Maroubra beaches and the shortest of strolls to Randwick’s stylish cafes and shops. It is located in a young, vibrant community with many hospital staff relishing the opportunity to settle in a coveted area of Sydney where respected schools, universities and child care centres sit side by side with first class restaurants, major parklands and pristine beaches.

About Us

The Prince of Wales Hospital is located on a Randwick campus which also incorporates The Prince of Wales Private Hospital, The Royal Hospital for Women and Sydney Children’s Hospital with The University of New South Wales located on an adjoining campus.

The Public Hospital has 440 beds, an average occupancy rate (number of beds occupied) of well over 90% and almost 3,000 staff, ensuring that The Prince of Wales Hospital has a relatively small but highly complex caseload. Each year more than 30,000 acute patients are admitted and about 40,000 patients are treated in our Emergency Department. We also attend to around 900,000 non-admitted patient occasions of service each year through our Community Health, outpatients and rural outreach services.

It is one of the state’s premier tertiary hospitals with a full range of service including one of the largest interventional cardiac services, renal transplantation on site, HIV medicine, Infectious Diseases, a Thalassaemia Service, comprehensive epilepsy service, spinal medicine and the state’s Hyperbaric Chamber.

The Prince of Wales Hospital JMO Unit plays a key role in recruitment and rostering of all Resident Medical Officers. The JMO Unit has a reputation for being flexible, working hard to support RMOs and working closely with RMOs to meet leave and rostering requests in a fair and transparent manner.
