Hepatitis C Links

Hepatitis C | Hepatitis C Links | Hepatitis C and Nutrition

There are many websites that deal with the facts of hepatitis C (HCV) but very few are in depth about the virus or have any medical information. There are not many websites dealing with HCV for health care professionals. To make it a little easier the websites of interest have been split into eight different groups.

For Health Care Professionals/Patients/General public (Australian)

These are Australian based that have some general information on HCV. Some are specifically directed towards patients/sufferers but have a decent amount of information for anyone.

For Health Care Professionals/Patients/General public (International)

These are internationally based web pages.

Personnel dealing with hepatitis C

These websites have been set up by individuals with an interest in HCV. Most of these individuals are HCV positive and act as a way to share their feelings. All of these are international. Most include a chat room for HCV positive people and personal stories of how people cope.

For Health Care Professionals (Australian)

Websites from Australia that are dedicated to informing health care professionals about HCV or HCV services in Australia or internationally.

Other hepatitis C Websites.

Anything without a category.

Most sites are easy to use and very straight forward. They all contain general information regarding HCV and all have links. Some also contain medical and general search engines for everyone to use. Most of the personal pages focus less on the medical aspect of HCV and more on support for people dealing with the virus, some of these actually include journals of people undergoing treatment for HCV. The list of sites, and a brief summary about each site and the type of information they offer follows:

For health care professionals/patients/general public (Australian)

  • Hepatitis C Council NSW The Hepatitis C Council of NSW is an independent, community based organisation offering assistance to people affected by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and is primarily funded by the NSW Health Department. This is an informative website on what the Hepatitis C Council of NSW can do for you. It contains a brief history of the virus and an in depth overview of HCV (this is done in a question and answer format). The site also contains a membership application form, and you can register securely online.
  • Multicultural HIV and Hepatitis C Service The website is maintained by the Multicultural HIV and Hepatitis C Service (MHAHS). This website provides HIV and hepatitis C information in the following languages: Amharic, Arabic, Bosnian, Burmese, Chinese, Croatian, English, Indonesian, Italian, Khmer, Portuguese, Serbian, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

For health care professionals/patients/general public (International)

  • Hep C Forum The Hep C Forum is an informative site that is easy for anybody to use. It is available in English and German. The site covers a list of topics, hepatitis, interferon, literature, alternatives, patients experiences, LTX (liver transplants), hep links and hep art. All are informative but they do not contain much medical information.
  • Schering Plough Schering Plough’s website has a news section which contains latest news and press releases regarding treatment for HCV – this site is a good way to stay informed.
  • CDC Homepage This is an American site called the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. This site has minimal information on HCV although quite a few other sites seem to have linked themselves to the CDC’s fact sheet on hepatitis C. This site has a list of publications, software and products. Another site called the ‘Hepatitis Branch Home Page’, links directly into this site and uses the same information.

It has a section on HCV that includes a news page, an events page, a quiz page, a doctors’ page and a patients’ page as well as a quick search option. The news page is for more detailed background information, or to see how current stories have developed over the last 12 months. The doctors area is designed for medical professionals, although interested patients and non-professionals are welcome to browse. The patients’ section is intended mainly for the use of patients currently being treated for some form of hepatitis, although all Hep Net resources are available to the general public as well. This is one of the best sites by far.

  • The American Liver Foundation Is a national, voluntary, non profit health agency dedicated to preventing treating and curing hepatitis and all liver diseases through research, education and support groups. This site has information on liver disease, search engines, service and group listings, recent news articles, journal articles and studies, a section on HCV in the news as well as a comprehensive listing of up coming seminars and meetings. The recent information seems to have little relevance to Australians.
  • HepCURE The Hepatitis C United Resource Exchange is a Canadian based non profit society that aims to cultivate an international network promoting hepatitis C education, support and research. The site includes articles from recent journals, links to journals and other websites, also has a research section where you can obtain information on HCV.
