Our Mission
Nursing at the Albion Street Centre (ASC) incorporates a holistic approach to caring by incorporating the biological aspects of health with the psychological, social, behavioural and spiritual needs of the individual, delivered in a professional, caring manner. The ASC nursing division aims to provide optimal and comprehensive prevention, assessment, treatment, education and research for persons affected by HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmissible infections (STIs).
Our approach to care is unbiased, non-judgmental and respectful of all individuals regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, spirituality, ethics, lifestyle, political preference or intellectual / cognitive functioning.
The belief of the nursing division is that all people have the right to make their own informed decisions regarding their health care requirements. The basis, of this belief facilitates the delivery of care that is individually tailored to the clients needs, designed from a trusting relationship.
Who we are
The nursing division is staffed by highly qualified and experienced clinicians who between them have over 20 years of specialised training in the areas of HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs. Staff ensure that they are providing up-to-date, best practices through continuous professional development and research.
What we do
- Perform screening for HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs
- Provide regular monitoring of HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs
- Support choices in treatment and investigation options
- Provide information and education
- Advise on how to reduce the risk and prevent transmission of HIV, HCV and STIs
- Administer a variety of treatments in our ambulatory care unit
- Triage by phone or in person for any health related concerns around HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs
- Provide referrals to other services as required.

- Assessment and enrolment in clinical trials
- Assessment of occupational and non-occupational exposures and referral for post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) if suitable
- A needle and syringe program in a friendly, confidential and non-judgmental environment
- Provide referrals to drug & alcohol services
- Advice and education for taking medications and maintaining adherence
- Wound assessment and management.
