About Us : Demographics
Population demographics vary greatly among local government areas (LGAs). Historically both aged persons and young children have been the major users of our health services.
Shoalhaven and Kiama LGAs have the highest proportion of residents aged 70 years and over, while Shellharbour LGA has the highest proportion of children under the age of 5 years.
Botany and Rockdale LGAs have the highest proportions of non-English speaking population, at about 35%, compared with less than 5% in Kiama and Shoalhaven LGAs.
45% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in SESIAHS reside in Shoalhaven and Wollongong LGAs.
Woollahra LGA is the least socio-economically disadvantaged in the Area while Shellharbour and Botany LGAs demonstrate a relatively more disadvantaged socio-economic status.
