Special Commission of Inquiry into Child Protection Services in NSW
Mr James Wood AO, QC, Chairman of the Law Reform Commission has handed down
his findings into the Special Commission of Inquiry to examine child protection
services in NSW.
Specifically, the NSW Government established the Special Commission of Inquiry
to examine how these services in NSW can deal with escalating child protection
reports and improve the care of vulnerable children.
A final report with findings was handed down by James Wood AO on 24 November
2008.
The Commission looked at what needs to be done, beyond the current reforms, to
cope with future levels of demand.
The entire system was examined by the Commissioner and covered the initial
reporting of child abuse to final placement in out-of-home care, interagency and
oversight arrangements.
