Education and research

Regular in-service programs are available internally within the hospital for all nursing staff.

Professional development is encouraged and nurses are supported to attend both short external courses and recognised post-graduate courses.

We promote the development of unit based champions for clinical issues who then champion the cause and provide education and promote awareness of issues amongst their colleagues.

Students and Trainees

Shellharbour Hospital participates in a new graduate program where nurses attend a formal orientation program and are then supported throughout the year with ongoing education, including five reflective study days.

The hospital also provides clinical placement opportunities for students from the following groups:

  • University of Wollongong Graduate Medical School
  • Undergraduate nursing students
  • Trainee Enrolled Nurses
  • Physiotherapy Students
  • Dietetics Students
  • Occupational Therapy students
  • School work experience
