Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS

The HIV/AIDS and Related Programs (HARP) Unit is responsible for the strategic and budgetary management of South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Health (SESIH) and statewide sexual health, HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C services and programs funded by NSW Health AIDS Program and the Commonwealth.

Area-wide services and programs provide by the HARP Unit include: health promotion for HIV/AIDS and related programs - HIV/AIDS, sexual health and hepatitis C; blood borne infection prevention; planning and performance; health informatics; and AIDS surveillance. The Unit also manages AIDS Program funds for non-government organisations supported by SESIH.
 

In addition to the hospital-based services the Area has several specialist sexual health services:

Albion Street Centre operates state-wide services including the NSW Health Infection Control Resource Centre, HIV and hepatitis C Reference Library, HIV/AIDS Information Line, Needle stick Injury Hotline, Needle Clean Up Hotline and PEP Line.

ADAHPT is a multidisciplinary outreach service for people with HIV/AIDS and those who are HIV positive.

Kirketon Road Centre (KRC) provides a comprehensive medical, counselling and social welfare services to “at risk” groups including, young people, injecting drug users and sex workers, including methadone access, needle/syringe programs and a mobile outreach service.

Sydney Sexual Health Centre (SSHC) provides screening, vaccination and management of sexually transmissible infections (STIs), women’s and men’s sexual health care, education, counselling and needle/syringe exchange.


Illawarra Sexual Health Service provides a wide range of outpatient services for the following issues: sexually transmissible disease, HIV/AIDS, sexuality, gender identity, sexual function, contraception, colposcopy, management of chronic vulval disease and exposure to blood borne viruses. Service providers include doctors, nurses and counsellors. Inpatient services are provided for HIV/AIDS.

The HIV Community Team is a multidisciplinary outreach program that provides confidential community health services for people living with, or closely affected by, HIV/AIDS across the South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Area
