Health and Ageing Research
The Health and Ageing Research Unit promotes research-based practice, education and policy development in aged and extended care. These promote older age as a time to maintain independence, self-determination, health, well-being and to deal effectively with health transitions.
Research includes:
- Developing and testing models of aged care in all sectors
- Preventing and reducing iatrogenic health breakdown
- Investigating the efficacy of therapeutic interventions, respite and follow-up care for older people with stroke, Parkinson's Disease, dementia and mental illness
- Testing nursing practice models and care planning in rehabilitation services
- Identifying the specific health needs and experiences of older lesbian women and those of very old women "survivors"
- Investigating hospital length of stay for older patients
- Evaluating health interventions aimed at improving management of challenging behaviours resulting from a dementing illness
