Racers, make your beds
There will be no time for napping when the 18th annual Kogarah Fair and
Charity Bed Race comes to town on Saturday 29 August.
The grease and oil has been applied, now the wheels of more than 40 hospital
beds are ready to turn again for this year’s Charity Bed Race.
As well as decorated beds, driven by crazy-costumed competitors, the day
will start at 10.00am with a bed parade and marching bands.
The day is co-hosted by Kogarah City Council and the Lamrock Committee,
who hope to raise $25,000 for the purchase of medical equipment for the
Hospital including a bronchoscope for the Operating Theatres and an ECG
Machine for the Neurology Ward.
Lamrock Committee President Toni Horsey said that this year’s event is
shaping up to be bigger and better than ever with more than 40 teams
racing for line honours along Railway Parade.
"The Lamrock Committee is once again delighted to be in partnership with
Kogarah City Council for this important date on the St George social
calendar,” Ms Horsey said.
“This much-loved event has become a tradition in Kogarah, and is unique
in Sydney.
“Apart from the Bed Race heats, finals and the best dressed bed award,
Kogarah City Council has organised entertainment throughout the day.
“There will be roving street entertainers, dancing troupes, bands and singers,
rides, arts and crafts stalls, games and food,” she said.
The St George business community is again supporting the event with
sponsors including The St George and Sutherland Shire Leader, St George Bank,
Myer Hurstville, Aussie Home Loans Kogarah, Medibank, St George Private Hospital,
Word of Mouth Dentistry, Bates Bikes and Nine News.
