Prince of Wales and Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospitals are encouraging their local
communities to give feedback about their expectations and experiences through a
pilot project set up by the Northern Network Community Advisory Committee.
The project began in December using a dedicated email and phone line to discuss
issues and ideas raised by the hospitals’ consumers to help improve a patient’s
experience.
Committee chair Patricia South said the project offered people an opportunity to
have a say, but importantly gave the hospitals a direct link to the communities
they served.
"We believe this feedback service can help shape these public hospitals to suit
the needs of their communities," Mrs South said.
The project has already had a positive impact on the issue of mixed gender
accommodation within the hospital.
Mrs South said the committee used the feedback it received from patients, their
families and friends, and helped management set up a review which resulted in a
25 per cent decrease in mixed gender accommodation on wards.
"It’s these sorts of issues that the committee can channel through to the
hospitals’ management with suggested solutions to make changes," she said.
"We are the first committee to set up this type of feedback and we’re hoping it
becomes a success that can be rolled out at other hospitals."
