Bed race gets ready to roll
Whether you’re watching one, running with one or lying in one, this year’s
Charity Bed Race – co-hosted by Kogarah Council and The Lamrock Committee on
Saturday 6 September – is a fabulous day of fun.
But more importantly, this unique event also raises funds for specialised
medical equipment at St George Hospital.
More than 40 teams are expected to sign up for this year’s Charity Bed Race and
the good news is that it is not too late to register.
The 17th annual event will see Railway Parade Kogarah transformed into a
colourful spectacle when teams of people pushing decorated hospital beds raise
money for St George Hospital.
Lamrock Committee President Toni Horsey said that the Kogarah Fair and Charity
Bed Race will kick off with the Bed Race Parade at 10.00am and will be
complemented by a host of other action-packed activities and interesting stalls
to provide a full day of great entertainment.
"Entertainment will include talent from the NSW Police Band, the Kogarah RSL
Club, classic tunes by the Fleetwood Mac tribute band and a special appearance
by Humphrey B Bear," Ms Horsey said.
As always, the St George business community has thrown its weight firmly behind
this unique event. Major sponsors include Channel Nine, The St George and
Sutherland Shire Leader, ANZ Bank, Sydney Credit Union, Medibank Private and St
George Bank.
"Apart from our major sponsors, teams running beds this year include service
clubs such as Lions and Rotary, banks, high schools, local councils, real estate
agencies, NSW Police, the NSW Fire Service, the State Emergency Services, as
well as various groups of hospital staff," Ms Horsey said.
Kogarah Mayor Cr Nick Katris said that this year’s event was shaping up to be
the biggest and best ever with a host of festivities planned to entertain the
crowd.
"The Kogarah Fair and Charity Bed Race is such a key event in Kogarah’s social
calendar. It’s a full day of family fun and entertainment and I urge local
residents and visitors alike not to miss it," Cr Katris said.
