Learning Programs for SESIH Staff
About MHS Learning Programs
MHS provides a range of learning and development programs on topics relating to cultural diversity in health care. The programs focus on enhancing the capacities of health practitioners and their respective organisations in health service development and delivery to communities of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The focus of all our learning programs is the enhancement of cultural competence. Programs can be customised to meet the specific needs of facilities, teams or units and may be conducted at locations that meet participants' requirements.
Culturally competent practice and diversity awareness is promoted in general training workshops available to all staff, and in orientation sessions for new clinical and administrative staff. Tailored workshops are provided in particular health fields such as Mental Health, HIV, Children and Families, and Palliative Care; also for staff who are working with immigrant and refugee groups with specific needs (eg. 'Holocaust Awareness', 'Working with Young People from African Communities'). Other education sessions include 'Using Interpreters' and 'English-in-the-Workplace' classes for overseas trained staff.
Health staff in SESIH also have access to a range of educational resources
include such as multilingual greetings charts, orientation kits and eLearning
