Multicultural Health Service

With 34 per cent of South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Health's population
born overseas, 18 per cent in a non-English speaking country, and almost one
quarter speaking a language other than English at home, the provision of
services and information that is appropriate for these consumers is vital.
A considerable challenge for our services is the number and
the diversity of the communities that we serve, each with different language,
beliefs and customs.
The SESIH Multicultural Health Service strives to ensure that our
culturally and linguistically diverse communities have the same access to health services
and information and the same quality of care as their fellow residents.
We do this by providing information and resources to community groups, organisations
and individuals and by assisting our staff to work with ethnic
communities and develop
cultural competence in their delivery of services.

My Life Story Book - memory aid for Greek-speaking seniors

Dementing illness can rob a person of
memories. SESIH has developed a Greek language book which can be filled with
photos or mementos from a person's life. Page titles and entries, in Greek and
English, act as prompts which aim to trigger memories and stimulate
conversation.
