About us
South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Health Multicultural Health Service provides support, information and services to assist health professionals and communities to achieve better health for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
Roles
- Compile and monitor the SESIH Ethnic Affairs Priorities Statement as required by NSW Community Relations Commission and Principles of Multiculturalism Act, 2000
- Assist CALD communities to learn about the health services and programs available to them
- Provide referrals to ensure increased access to services
- Facilitate the involvement of CALD communities in health service planning and delivery
- Support research that will lead to culturally appropriate models of care
- Assist in improving the Area's capacity to provide culturally competent health services to CALD people
- Work with health staff to plan, implement and evaluate services targeting language groups
- Organise training and education on cultural issues and diversity in health care
- Work collaboratively with language support services to ensure that interpreters are utilised and available when required eg health care interpreter services and Translating and Interpreting Service
