ECMN Training Program
In the past three years, pass rates for first time sitters in the written exam have been between 70-100%, and between 89-100% for all clinical exam sitters.
The Network training program consists of:
- Video-conferenced lecture series auspiced by the RACP at four sites, with Sydney Hospital registrars coming to Randwick - one lecture session per week.
- Protected teaching time for Lecture series and Grand Rounds.
- Clinical training program – regular consultant-led practice including short case specialty days (Endocrinology, Cardiology, Respiratory, Neurology, Rheumatology) and trial clinical exams.
- Tutorial Program for preparation for the FRACP Written Exam - including video-conferenced sessions starting in August of the prior year.
- Professional development - Teaching on The Run, leadership skills and core medical skills
- Buddy Program designed by trainees for mentoring of potential physician trainees.
- Mentoring Program involving consultants mentoring BPTs.
- Critical Care workshops targeted at building leadership skills for team leaders in arrest situations.
- Dedicated medical library at all five sites, including access to intranet and internet resources.
- Resource collection for exam preparation including MKSAP, past RACP exam papers, comprehensive collection of review articles, core selection of relevant textbooks and clinical tools for exam preparation. All frequently updated.
- Secure Training Website only available to ECMN Trainees with a host of training resources, tutorial presentations and clinical information
- Strong culture of involvement of senior medical staff across all sites, including collection of articles and tutorials on emerging topics from conference presentations, as well as frequent long case practice sessions.
- All five sites have FRACP examiners helping to develop and direct the training program delivery.
- Strong Academic Links to the University of New South Wales.
- Opportunities for further research with many academic units. A number of our trainees have gone on to do higher degrees.
- Opportunities for conjoint academic appointments for staff who are interested in student teaching.
