East Coast Medical Network
Prince of Wales - Port Macquarie - Shellharbour - Sydney - Wollongong
The East Coast Medical Network offers a range of training and lifestyle
experiences across the Network's five hospitals. From picturesque Port
Macquarie, where general medicine experience rubs shoulders with a relaxed surfing
lifestyle, to Prince of Wales Hospital offering a wide range of subspecialty
medical terms and proximity to beaches and cafes, and to the buzz of city life at
Sydney Hospital.
Continuing on to Wollongong, where subspecialty and general medicine hang out
with hang-gliding and national parks, and Shellharbour with general medicine and
beaches that never end. The East Coast Medical Network
offers everything you require for a complete basic medical training experience.
With a choice of Port Macquarie, Prince of Wales, or Wollongong as a home base
hospital, you can structure your life and training to suit your needs.
Trainees have access to terms with exposure to cardiology, respiratory,
gastroenterology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, haematology, neurology,
HIV Medicine, immunology, acute aged care medicine, medical
oncology, palliative care, nephrology, intensive care medicine, elderly person
rehabilitation, medical problems in pregnancy, post acute
care/hospital in the home and a range of general medicine terms, some with a
subspecialty flavour. All of our terms are accredited with the Royal
Australasian College of Physicians.
Rostering is such that there are no 24-hour shifts (on duty) and no terms of
night duty. Overtime rostering arrangements across the Network are in accordance
with the AMA Safe Working Hours guidelines. Remuneration will follow the Public
Hospital (Medical Officers) Award.
The aim of the network training program, and of the dedicated Directors of
Physician Training, is to provide a breadth and depth of training that supports
trainees in achieving the highest possible pass rate in the FRACP examinations,
as well as great flexibility in long-term vocational preparation.
