Mental Health
Some individuals who use cannabis also experience co-existing mental health
issues such as depression, anxiety, bi-polar or schizophrenia. The combination
of mental health issues and cannabis use can result in a “merry-go-round”
effect. Cannabis use can intensify a person’s mental health symptoms and in
turn the person may attempt to ‘medicate’ their mental health symptoms with more
cannabis.
Sutherland Cannabis Clinic offers counselling and support by working with
clients to address their cannabis use, and working collaboratively with GPs,
mental health services and other health and welfare professionals to work
towards reducing the symptoms associated with mental health issues. Referrals
can be made to appropriate mental health/dual diagnosis services as required.
Mental health staff can make referrals to the clinic with the consent of the
client.
